Championships is the finale of our season and includes all the teams in our league.
The meet is held at Cecil Field Aquatics Center. The meet is set up so that the pool is divided into 2 separate pools. Younger kids (8 year olds and under) swim the 8 lanes closest to the diving boards and the older kids swim the 8 lanes closest to the main entrance. The two pools are swum simultaneously and there are 2 ready benches (clerk of the course areas); one for each of the pools.
The meet is a long one, but tons of fun for the kids. It is a great opportunity for them to compete as a team against the entire league and they enjoy the team companionship that this meet offers.
Some positions have a mandatory Meeting - check section below for time.
Volunteer Coordinators - We will have 3 Volunteer Coordinators Alma Nick, Cheri Johnson and Heather Jarvi. Please be sure to sign in with one of them. They will be wearing yellow safety vests with Eagle Harbor pinned to the back of the vest. Hopefully, this will make it easy to find them.
Please show up for your position about 5 minute before your shift is due to start, to ensure a smooth transition.
Please do not skip your shift! The person working before you is really counting on your relieving them.
Important Times for Day of the Meet
Plan to be a Cecile Field no later than 7:45am. This should give you enough time to set up your spot and get your swimmers ready for warm ups.
Warm Ups - 8:00am - 8:30am. We only have 1/2 an hour and 4 lanes, so its important to have your swimmers in their suits, googles and caps and at the side of the pool, ready to jump in at 8:00 exactly.
Mandatory Volunteer Meetings: Prior to the meet start, the following meetings need to happen in our meeting/ribbon room at the facility entrance:
8:00: Mandatory meeting for all Stroke and Turn Judges with John and Rick
8:30: Clerks and Computer
8:45: Coaches, League Reps and team volunteer coordinators
9:00: Starters, timers with Meet Director
Meet Starts at 9:30am. 8& Under pool always finishes first, as there are fewer swimmers and fewer events.
What To Bring to Champs
Uniform & Equipment: Team suit, goggles, caps, team t-shirt, 1-2 towels per swimmer
If your swimmer loses or tears their swim cap, the Volunteer Coordinators will have caps for sale, like at away meets. $12 Silicon, $5 Laytex. Cash or Check only. Exact change is very helpful.
Chairs to Sit On for Every Family Member. There are bleachers in the pool ares, but they are typically VERY crowded. Immediately outside the pool building, each team will be assigned a team area.
Cecil Field WILL NOT be providing the large banquet tents this year, so if you have one, I do recommend bringing your own pop-up tent.
When setting up your spot, I HIGHLY recommend everyone try to stake out an area for everyone in the team, that makes getting kids to the ready bench (Especially the little ones) easier. Also, makes it much easier for you to sign in for your volunteer shift and to get to your volunteer position at the right time.
Plenty of Water! It's important to keep your swimmer well hydrated throughout the day
Munchies for Your Swimmers. It's a long day, so its best to provide light and nutritious snacks for your swimmer to munch on. There are a few concession stands, but they will have a limited menu.
A Sharpie Marker. We really recommend putting your child's last name on their shoulder. This makes it so much easier for volunteers who are helping get your kids to the starting blocks.
A Little bit of Cash - there will be the concession trucks.
|1st - 8th Place||Medals|
|9th - 16th Place||Ribbons|
|1st- 3rd Place||Medals|
|4th - 8th Place||Ribbons|
Individual Events - Top 16 score points for team
Relay Events - Top 8 score points for team
Championship Medals and Ribbons are given out during the End of the Season Banquet
Please be aware that there will be stroke and turn officials at champs and they will be disqualifying swimmers. In the regular season, there will be stroke and turn judges at some of the meets, so your swimmer will already be familiar with the idea.
Other Important Items
- Parents are not allowed behind the starting blocks with the swimmers. There will be Meet Marshalls that assist with crowd control and are assigned to make sure only swimmers are allowed in certain areas. Your Child is supervised by adults from the moment they enter the ready bench tent and Eagle Harbor Coaches will be behind the blocks to help your swimmer there.
- Ready Benches: The 8 & Under Ready Bench gives the children cards, like at regular meets. At the 9 & Over Ready Bench cards are not used
- Score Boards located in the pool area shows the Events/Heats/Times for the 9& Over pool.
